From Maharashtra to Nainativu: A Sacred Continuum of Śakti and Civilisational Connection* 🪔❤️ *01/10/2026*

We are profoundly pleased to witness this spiritually significant encounter between Maharashtra and Nainativu Sri Nāgapūṣaṇi Amman, in which devotees from Maharashtra have journeyed to the Northern Province of Sri Lanka and participated in the sacred tradition of carrying the Deepam from Nainativu.

For generations, Hindu pilgrimage has transcended contemporary political boundaries, sustaining networks of devotion, memory and sacred geography across the Indian Ocean. Seetha Eliya, situated in Sri Lanka’s central highlands, has long attracted devotees from India and elsewhere who associate the site with the sacred narratives surrounding Sītā.

It is therefore particularly meaningful to witness a complementary movement in the opposite geographical direction: devotees from Maharashtra travelling to Nainativu in the Northern Province to honour Sri Nāgapūṣaṇi Amman and carry the sacred Deepam back towards Maharashtra.

This should not be understood merely as a ceremonial exchange. It offers a powerful reminder that Hindu sacred geography is neither confined to a single modern state nor reducible to contemporary political borders. It is constituted through pilgrimage, temple traditions, ritual practice, collective memory and enduring devotional relationships.

From Maharashtra to Nainativu, and from Nainativu towards Maharashtra, the Deepam becomes a profound symbol of continuity—connecting communities, sacred spaces and generations through a living Hindu civilisational tradition. 🪔❤️

May this sacred light illuminate not only temples, but also our understanding of the historical and spiritual connections that have continued to unite Hindu communities across the Indian Ocean.

Om Śakti. 🙏
